Nine in Ten Children in Türkiye Use Artificial Intelligence

19 September 2026 · EU Kids Online Türkiye research findings

The EU Kids Online Türkiye findings for the 10–16 age group have been made public. The data show that children in Türkiye use AI tools markedly more than the European average, yet feel less safe online than their peers across Europe.

AI use is above the European average

Only one in ten children aged 10–16 in Türkiye has never used artificial intelligence. Across Europe the share who have never used it is around one in three, which means children in Türkiye come into contact with these tools far more widely than their peers.

Homework is where this use shows most clearly:

  • One in two children in Türkiye says they have AI write their homework.
  • Across Europe, one in three children reports the same behaviour.
  • One in four children seeks advice on emotional matters from AI tools.

The emotional-advice finding suggests that AI is not merely a homework aid for children; it is becoming a channel for counsel and confiding.

Perceived online safety lags behind Europe

The sharpest contrast in the study appears here: children in Türkiye use digital tools more intensively, yet feel less safe while doing so.

  • 32% of children in Türkiye feel safe on the internet.
  • Across Europe the same figure is 48%.
  • 60% of children say they fear becoming the victim of a crime in the digital world.

Encounters with disturbing content have tripled in five years

The share of children reporting that they ran into something distressing online in the past month rose from 7% five years ago to 23% today — more than a threefold increase.

The rise has to be read alongside the growth in usage: the more time children spend in digital environments, the more likely they are to meet a negative experience.

Europe–Türkiye comparative report due in October

A detailed comparative report placing the European and Turkish data side by side will be published in October. It will be announced on this page and in the Resources section.
